Pros News
The weather has improved, the Masters is starting, and the course is coming into season. Now is the time to dust off the clubs and practice, ready for a better year than last year.
We have all the facilities to improve, but how do you know if you are improving? There are 3 forms of practice: technical, mental and game craft.
The technical can be worked on by practicing your technique through repetition....we have just the areas for that. We also have the brilliant Flightscope Mevo Plus devices, which we offer FREE to members, to evaluate your data and adjust accordingly. Pop into the shop and ask to use a device (one of the Pro team will show you how to set it up if you are a newcomer to this option).
The mental side is something that requires effort if you wish to be stronger mentally. Negative thoughts can affect the swing and strokes to such an extent that you feel disconnected from your own body at times. Negative thoughts are disastrous in golf.
A great piece of advice I can offer you is: Imagine how you would caddy for yourself, and how you would speak to yourself if you were caddying? You wouldn't allow a caddy to speak to you the way that you speak to yourself...try to be kind to you!
The game craft is the tough one. How to score your ball. Hitting it well is no guarantee of scoring well. Scoring is a skill and requires a good understanding of your own game, your strengths, but more importantly, your weaknesses. Play a game that reduces the impact of your bad shots. Your objective is to reduce the bad rather than improve the good. Look at ways that you drop silly shots on specific holes, and try to figure out better approaches to holes. Maybe hitting less club off the tee to 'get your ball in play' could be a better option than constantly driving in trouble because 'you should make 4'. Change your strategy and play 'Aggressive conservative'.
Playing better golf is so much easier than you think. Practice with purpose, play with a rational mind and play within your capabilities.
